There are two main types of indices:
Capitalisation-weighted indices reflect the average of the companies with a higher total market value who/that will have a bigger impact on the price of an index.
Price-weighted indices (like Dow Jones) reflect the average of the companies with a higher share price who/that will affect the index’s price more. For example, a company with a share price of $10 will have ten times more impact than a company with a share price of $1.

With leverage trading you can control bigger positions with lower initial payment. If leverage is 1:100, you can control a position worth $10,000 with just $100. Although trading with leverage can yield maximum profits, it can also cause losses that exceed your deposit. For more information, check out Margin Trading.
You can speculate on both the rising and a falling price. For instance, let’s say you place a buy order on Dow Jones and the price of the index goes up. When you sell you would earn a difference between the buy and sell price. If it goes down, you would pay the difference.
